ICTD commemorates the start of the landmark clinical trial, led by James Lind on sailors with scurvy, 20 May 1747. Acknowledging its foundational role in shaping contemporary clinical research, ECRIN annually honors this milestone, addressing a new topic in clinical research every year around this significant date.

This year's topic: Data Centric Clinical Research.

With the data revolution playing an increasing role in all aspects of clinical research this year we will focus on some of the impacts, benefits and challenges of the rise of data and technology. Different stakeholders from the community will share their experiences on topics ranging from the integration of the new technical assets, eHealth, data science, the data protection legislation and collaboration of academia and industry, among others.

ICTD this year will be a hybrid event, direct from Thessaloniki, that will run from 9:00 to 5:30 CEST. This event is free and welcomes participants both onsite and online.

The Second EU-Africa PerMed Summer School will take place on May 21-23 2024 in Nairobi, Kenya. This year's edition focuses on implementing personalised medicine in various fields, with the goal to equip participants with skills to support personalised medicine and research network creation.

The Summer School is open to 35 junior researchers, policymakers, and healthcare workers from EU and African countries who will be evaluated and admitted on a competitive basis. At least 6 participants will be selected to receive a travel and accommodation grant. Participation in this training event is free of cost.

EUPATI (European Patients’ Academy on Therapeutic Innovation)

Description: The EUPATI Fundamentals training aims to ensure the acceleration of effective patient engagement in Europe and across the world in medicines R&D and other health technologies. These trainings are designed for people working in academia and the pharmaceutical industry, and are both online and face-to-face trainings.

EDCTP Forum 2023:  ‘Partnering for Global Health Research Innovation and Impact in Africa – Celebrating EDCTP: two decades and beyond’

This session is co-chaired by EDCTP and the European Clinical Research Infrastructure Network (ECRIN) and brings together key global health actors to collectively discuss the next steps towards the comprehensive mobilisation of all the stakeholders necessary for building sustainable clinical research infrastructure, skills development, and strengthening of institutions for the development and uptake of safe and effective R&I products in Africa. A set of recommendations on clinical trial infrastructure and capacity building in Africa arising from a session hosted by ECRIN and EDCTP on 17 June 2021 at the Africa-Europe Science and Innovation Summit will also be further discussed. Several panellists will take part in a policy roundtable on EU-AU research and innovation cooperation for the development of sustainable clinical research infrastructures and a skilled workforce in Africa.

The EDCTP Forum is a biennial event that provides an international platform for the presentation and discussion of cutting-edge research addressing the burden of poverty-related infectious diseases in sub-Saharan Africa and the capacity development and networking activities that support this goal.

International cooperation in science and technology is an important part of addressing major global issues like climate change, infectious disease, food security, and natural disasters. Research Infrastructures are organizations providing state-of-the-art resources, services and expertise to scientists. The RI-VIS project unites research infrastructures across scientific domains to work together more efficiently and effectively and increase their visibility in society. 

The Africa-Europe Science Collaboration Astronomy Platform (AERAP) is a stakeholder forum convened to define priorities for science and innovation cooperation between Africa and Europe. It provides a framework for stakeholders from industry and academia to define research action plans across the wide range of technological areas that will be essential for addressing common challenges and future. 

The RI-VIS Latin America - Europe Symposium will be held between Tuesday, June 15th and Thursday, June 17th 2021, as a virtual event. This event is organised in collaboration with the EU-LAC ResInfra project.
 

The RI-VIS Africa-Europe Symposium will be held on Monday, February 1st and Tuesday, February 2nd, 2021, as a virtual event.

The objectives of the Third CRIGH General Assembly, held virtually due to the current COVID-19 crisis constraints, are to: 

• Provide the opportunity to discuss the progress of the various activities and consolidate the role of CRIGH as a key partner for the co-development of independent clinical trials. 

• Draft recommendations for global health actors and stakeholders to support independent, timely and equitable clinical trial implementation and access.  

The CRIGH project on clinical data management will be presented at the DIA Japan Annual Meeting 2019, which will be held from 10 to 12 November in Tokyo.
